Campus community invited to sneak peek of expanded Yale Art Gallery

The Yale University Art Gallery’s grand opening festivities will begin on Thursday, Dec. 6, with a 12-hour preview for Yale students, staff, and faculty.

The Yale University Art Gallery’s grand opening festivities will begin on Thursday, Dec. 6, with a 12-hour preview for Yale students, staff, and faculty.

Members of the Yale community will have the opportunity to explore the expanded gallery before it opens to the public. Walkthroughs of the newly installed spaces and talks in the galleries will be offered from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.. Refreshments will be served all day.

Guests can tour the completely reinstalled galleries of ancient art, art of the ancient Americas, European art, American art, Asian art, African art, and modern and contemporary art and design, as well as the museum’s first-ever galleries for coins and medals, photography, and Indo-Pacific art. Many objects are on view for the first time.

The permanent collection is complemented by two special exhibitions, featuring the Société Anonyme collection and contemporary sculpture.

Yale I.D. is required for entry during the Dec. 6 preview.

The expanded gallery reopens to the public on Dec. 12.
