Building on over a decade of labor peace, Yale University and Unite Here Locals 35 and 34 reach tentative agreement

UNITE HERE Locals 35 and 34 have reached a tentative agreement with Yale University in contract negotiations for service, maintenance, clerical, and technical workers at Yale.

UNITE HERE Locals 35 and 34 have reached a tentative agreement with Yale University in contract negotiations for service, maintenance, clerical, and technical workers at Yale. The unions plan to present the agreement to their members for a ratification vote on Jan. 18.

Both the university and the unions believe that the tentative agreement will maintain good jobs for current and future workers at Yale University.

“Once again, working hard and listening to each other has led to a very good agreement,” said Local 35 UNITE HERE President Bob Proto.

“After months of discussion and work on both sides, we’re very excited to present this tentative agreement to our members for their consideration and to continue to build on our partnership with the University,” said Local 34 UNITE HERE President Laurie Kennington.

“We are extremely grateful to all of the university and union leaders who worked so hard and so creatively over the past 12 months to reach the tentative new labor agreements,” said Mike Peel, vice president for human resources and administration.  ”If these new contracts are approved by union members, they will mark the third set of contracts in a row achieved without labor conflict, an important departure from Yale’s turbulent labor history.”

Details of the agreement will be released pending ratification by the members of the unions.
