Each year, Yale Health conducts a 50/50 raffle at its staff holiday party, with 50% of the income from ticket sales donated to United Way and the other 50% given to the person whose winning ticket is drawn.

Robertson was the winner this year and chose to give her prize of $571.50 back to United Way so that the total contribution from Yale Health’s raffle ticket sales totaled $1,143.00. She dedicated her gift to the memory of her late mother, herself a longtime United Way supporter.

“Diane’s generosity really inspires all of us at Yale Health, and we hope it will inspire others across campus,” says Dr. Paul Genecin, director of Yale Health. “We are proud of the generosity all of our staff demonstrate for United Way, with more people this year contributing time and purchasing raffle tickets for this vital effort.”

“All of us at Yale can be proud that ours is a university deeply connected to its home city and region,” President Peter Salovey wrote to the Yale community at the launch of the Yale United Way campaign in late October. “Our partnership with United Way exemplifies a spirit of community that extends across and beyond the campus, reinforcing our ties to our neighbors and our shared investment in building a stronger New Haven.”

The Yale United Way campaign continues through the holidays and into January. Readers are encouraged to visit http://unitedway.yale.edu to learn more and to participate.
