Yale's Guo wins the 2014 STEM CELLS Young Investigator Award

Dr. Shangqin Guo, assistant professor in the Department of Cell Biology at the Yale Stem Cell Center, received the 2014 Stem Cells’ Young Investigator Award for research on the reprogramming of stem cells.

The award is presented to a young researcher who serves as principal author of a significant study published in the journal over the past year.

Guo’s paper used live cell imaging to reveal how adult cells change to an embryonic-like state.

“The outstanding study by Dr. Guo’s laboratory created a dynamic imaging system that was used to address multiple key questions regarding early reprogramming from hematopoietic (blood) cells,” said Dr. Jan A. Nolta, editor-in-chief of the Stem Cells. “The use of the imaging and new technology in this study is truly elegant.”

“For someone who is just starting off, this provides a sense of reassurance, recognition and gratification,” said Guo, who was recruited to the Yale Stem Cell Center as an associate research scientist in 2009.
