Two Yale researchers among 2017 Pew scholars and fellows
A Yale scientist and a researcher who will come to Yale for postdoctoral research are among 37 scientists named as 2017 Pew scholars and fellows, the Pew Charitable Trusts announced June 15.
The scholars and fellows will gather at Pew’s annual meeting for the next four years to discuss their research, learn from peers in other fields, and form lasting bonds that will help propel and stimulate cutting-edge research.
Nadya M. Dimitrova
Dimitrova has been named as a member of the 2017 class of Pew-Stewart scholars for cancer research. The program — funded by The Alexander and Margaret Stewart Trust and administered by Pew — supports early-career investigators whose research promises to accelerate discovery of treatments and cures for cancer. Dimitrova is assistant professor in Yale’s Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology and a member of the Yale Center for RNA Science and Medicine and the Yale Cancer Center. Her lab focuses on long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and their roles in the regulation of critical cellular pathways during tumor development.
José E. Soto
Soto, a researcher in microbiology from Mexico, will join the laboratory of Jorge Galán, the Lucille P. Markey Professor of Microbial Pathogenesis and professor of cell biology
as a member of the 2017 class of Pew Latin American fellows in the biomedical sciences. Pew’s program provides two-year fellowships to talented Latin American scientists who receive postdoctoral training in the United States. Fellows are mentored by distinguished investigators at their sponsoring institutions and become part of Pew’s network of more than 900 biomedical researchers.
