Scott J. Miller, the Irénée du Pont Professor of Chemistry, won the ACS Award for Creative Work in Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Sponsored by Aldrich Chemical Co., the award is given to “recognize and encourage excellence in synthetic organic chemistry.”

Miller joined the Yale faculty in 2006. His research group explores innovative strategies to discover new chemical transformations that enable the rapid synthesis of stereochemically complex structures. Miller will receive his ACS award at a March 15 ceremony in conjunction with the 251st ACS national meeting, in San Diego.

David Spiegel, a professor in the Department of Chemistry, won an Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award. Sponsored by the Arthur C. Cope Fund, the award is given to “recognize and encourage excellence in organic chemistry.”

Spiegel has been a member of the Yale faculty since 2007. His lab develops novel chemical methods to enable the synthesis of a variety of complex molecular targets, including natural products.
