Dr. Patrick O’Connor named president of the American Board of Addiction Medicine
Dr. Patrick O’Connor, professor of medicine and section chief of general internal medicine, has been named the 2014 president of the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM).
ABAM is an independent medical specialty board established in 2007 to certify addiction medicine physicians from several specialties, including emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, preventive medicine, psychiatry, and other specialties.
ABAM’s mission is to advance the quality of medical care for substance use disorders. Its volunteer directors and officers are among the nation’s leading physicians in this field.
Dr. Gail D’Onofrio, chair of emergency medicine, was named as secretary of the ABAM.
