Stefano Giglio named Frederic D. Wolfe Professor of Finance and Management

Giglio, a member of Yale’s faculty since 2017, is a preeminent global scholar of asset pricing in the field of financial economics.

Stefano Giglio, a preeminent global scholar of asset pricing in the field of financial economics, has been appointed the Frederic D. Wolfe Professor of Finance and Management, effective immediately.

Giglio, a member of the faculty at the Yale School of Management (SOM), is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Research Affiliate at the Center for Economic Policy Research, as well as a fellow of the Society for Financial Econometrics.

His research interests span many topics, including asset pricing, macroeconomics, and climate finance, with a particular focus on the management of macroeconomic risks (such as crash risk, uncertainty risk, and climate risk).

Giglio has published 29 papers in top journals and won several prestigious paper prizes forhis work, including the 2021 Carlo Alberto medal, awarded to an Italian economist under the age of 40 for outstanding research contributions to the field of economics; the AQR Insight Award, which recognizes exceptional academic working papers offering original, intelligent approaches to practical issues in the investment world; the Fama-DFA Prize, which is awarded to authors with the best capital markets and asset pricing research papers published in the Journal of Financial Economics; and the Moskowitz prize for sustainable finance. He has also served as an editor for the Review of Financial Studies, one of the field’s top academic journals.

Giglio is also a valued member of the Yale and SOM communities. He has taught a range of courses, including in financial instruments, risk management, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing, and is also a mentor to doctoral students. He has also been instrumental, both as a teacher and contributor, to the success of SOM’s Master’s in Asset Management program, which was launched in 2021.

Before joining the Yale faculty in 2017, Giglio was an associate professor of finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University and both an M.Sc. and B.A. from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.
