Jazz concert to benefit relief fund for local artists, organizations

The Yale Undergraduate Jazz Collective will livestream a concert to benefit the Arts Council for Greater New Haven’s Creative Sector Relief Fund on Friday, May 22, at 5:30 p.m.

The concert can be viewed via YouTube and Facebook Live, and will feature the eight members of the collective performing solo and duo pieces, ranging from standards to improvisations to originals. The performers are Calvin Kaleel, Graham Stodolski, Ben Grobman, Ethan Dodd, Luca Scoppetta-Stern, Jason Altshuler, Gabriel Mininberg, and Daniel Zanuttini-Frank.

The concert was organized by Yale College junior Zanuttini-Frank, a Hamden native and music major, who wanted to support the local artistic community during a time of economic hardship.

“I was sitting at home practicing a lot, and reading a lot of the news,” said Zanuttini-Frank. “I was really moved by all of the things people were doing to help out the members of our community who are in need. I also have been enjoying a lot of the live music that has been available online over the past few months, both from the most famous artists in the world and by Firehouse 12 here in New Haven every Friday night. A former member of our organization, Alexander Dubovoy, suggested that we organize a concert to benefit local artists, and I really liked his idea, so I decided to take initiative and make it happen. I sent a message to Jason [Altshuler], our president, and then to all of the other members of the collective to gauge interest. People signed up, sent in recordings, and now, a few weeks later, we have a concert ready.”
