Peabody Museum accepting applications for Gaylord Simpson Prize

The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History is accepting applications for the George Gaylord Simpson Prize Annual Award for a paper on evolution and the fossil record.

Yale graduate students and recent Ph.D.s may submit one first-authored paper. The range of questions that may be addressed in the paper are open, provided they explicitly address evolution and the fossil record. Questions could include contributions to the philosophy and history of science, theory and methods of phylogenetic inference, biogeography, paleontology, divergence time estimation, biodiversity studies, developmental biology, functional morphology, or conservation biology. 

Submissions must be either published or in press in a refereed journal. Graduate students in residence in a department at Yale, or past graduates no more than five years after obtaining a Ph.D., are eligible. Former winners are not eligible, but papers can be submitted more than once.

A completed form must be included with every submitted paper. The form is available on the Peabody Museum’s website.

The director of the museum will present the winner with a monetary prize at the awards luncheon to be held on May 13 in the Department of Geology & Geophysics.
