Dear members of the Yale community and friends,

I am pleased to announce the debut of Yale Today — a university-wide e-newsletter from the Office of Public Affairs and Communications that succeeds the YaleNews email you have been receiving twice weekly.

Starting today, Yale Today will appear in your inbox every weekday morning. I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as we have enjoyed conceiving it.

Knowing that some of you will appreciate a weekly edition (whether in addition to or instead of the daily), we will be launching “Yale Today: Best of the Week” by the end of the month: we will send you the first installment soon.

Yale Today will offer new story types that portray Yale’s extraordinary breadth of excellence more vividly and thoroughly — we’ll give you breaking news from across the university, but also bits of content meant to depict the warp and woof of life on campus. Moving to a daily format will allow us greater freedom to range fully across Yale, while keeping each given installment brief enough to feel welcoming.

Yale Today’s content and design were shaped by our readers: About 500 of you were kind enough to complete a survey we fielded this summer, and dozens participated in focus groups and user testing. You told us that while you generally like the twice-weekly e-newsletter, you would welcome greater variety in subject matter and would be glad for more visual dynamism and personality. We were delighted to get this vital input — especially because it squared perfectly with our own sense of things.

As with the current twice-weekly publication, Yale Today will be sent to all members of the campus community and to alumni worldwide — nearly 200,000 people in all. Anyone may subscribe; no Yale affiliation is necessary (and thousands of non-affiliated friends are, happily, already subscribing to our current offering). We encourage you to share Yale Today with your contacts outside of Yale.

We emphatically invite any comments or suggestions you might have. You can reach us through this webform.

And a special word of thanks: To make Yale Today, we partnered with New York-based creative agency FAY Design, whose principal, Aron Fay, led superb work — alongside Devon Merlette, Yale College ’19, a talented young FAY designer who did his alma mater proud.

Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Nate Nickerson
Vice President for Communications
