Arrests have been made in connection with an Oct. 6 incident in which anti-Semitic graffiti appeared on the steps of the High Street entrance of Yale Law School.

Yale Police arrested three individuals this week and a fourth arrest is pending. The individuals — who were not members of the Yale community — were charged with multiple crimes, including trespassing and committing a hate crime.

Yale condemns racism and bigotry,” Yale President Peter Salovey said. “When confronted with acts of hate and exclusion, we must respond by affirming our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community and to creating and sharing knowledge with individuals from all walks of life. Members of our community, on campus and around the globe, are seeking truth and solutions to the difficult and complex challenges gripping our society. Together we are leading meaningful work to build a better world.”

Police said the four individuals did not appear to be part of an organized group, nor did they appear to be aware they were vandalizing the Law School in particular.

We took this incident very seriously,” wrote Yale Law School Dean Heather K. Gerken in an email to the YLS community. “I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to Chief Ronnell Higgins and the members of his team for their extraordinary work and for bringing closure to this investigation.”
