Executive editor of Sports Illustrated to speak at college tea
L. Jon Wertheim, executive editor of Sports Illustrated, will speak at a college tea hosted by Jonathan Edwards College. The tea will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 in the Jonathan Edwards Head of College House, 70 High St. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Poynter Fellowship in Journalism.
Wertheim has worked since 1996 at Sports Illustrated, where he has covered a variety of sports and served as a senior writer since 1999. He is also a contributing correspondent for the CBS news program “60 Minutes,” where he has appeared in the sports edition as a commentator and reporter, and has been a commentator for The Tennis Channel during its coverage of the Grand Slam tournaments.
Wertheim has published 10 books, including the New York Times bestseller “Scorecasting: The Hidden Influences Behind How Sports Are Played and Games Are Won” (co-written with Tobias Moskowitz). He graduated from Yale College in 1993.
The Poynter Fellowship in Journalism was established by Nelson Poynter, who received his master’s degree in 1927 from Yale. The fellowship brings to campus distinguished reporters, editors and others who have made important contributions to the media. Among recent Poynter fellows are Soleil Ho, Yuki Noguch, and Lisa Margonelli.
