Extreme climate change is topic of Washington Post reporter’s talk

Business and climate change reporter Steven Mufson ’80 of The Washington Post will present a talk on extreme climate change in the United States on Monday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Branford College common room, 74 High St. The event is sponsored by the Poynter Fellowship in Journalism.

Mufson joined The Washington Post in 1989. Since then, he has also covered economic policy, diplomacy, and the White House. Prior to working for The Washington Post, Mufson reported for The Wall Street Journal from New York, London, and Johannesburg. He is the author of “Fighting Years: Black Resistance and the Struggle for a New South Africa” and “Keystone XL: Down the Line.”

Mufson has taught American studies at Georgetown University and an energy policy course at the University of California-Washington Center. He graduated from Yale College with a B.A. in economics and political science. While at Yale, Mufson was the editor-in-chief of the Yale Daily News.

The Poynter Fellowship in Journalism was established by Nelson Poynter, who received his master’s degree in 1927 from Yale. The fellowship brings to campus distinguished reporters, editors and others who have made important contributions to the media. Among recent Poynter fellows are Lauren Sherman, Eve Ensler, and Wesley Morris.
