Peabody Museum to host mineral and gem symposium

The 2019 Yale Mineral and Gem Symposium, featuring talks and educational opportunities, will take place Friday-Sunday, Oct. 18-20 at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, 175 Whitney Ave.

The main session, on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will feature eight talks by prominent mineral experts. Michael T. Bycroft of the University of Warwick (England) will present the keynote address on the topic of “Gems and the Scientific Revolution.” Friday night’s session will feature a talk at 5 p.m., followed by a reception from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The fee for the symposium is $75-$100, and includes nine lectures, the Friday reception, breakfast and lunch Saturday, and a special brunch on Sunday, Oct. 20, at a private home. For more information and to register, visit the Peabody Museum website.
