Landmark Conference on the Affordable Care Act Happening Sept. 26-27

A landmark conference looking back at ten years of the Affordable Care Act will take place at Yale Law School on September 26-27, 2019.

The Affordable Care Act at 10 conference is co-hosted by The Solomon Center for Health Law and Policy at Yale Law School and the Healthcare Transformation Institute at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine.

The event will bring together some of the most important players involved in the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) passage and implementation as well as an interdisciplinary group of scholars to assess the legislation’s successes, shortcomings, and future.

The conference will kick off with a keynote address by former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel who will be discussing the ACA in public for the first time. Friday will feature a series of engaging panel discussions and a keynote address by former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Panel topics will examine the goal of health care reform, the politics of enactment and implementation, the impact of the ACA, and the future of health care.

The conference marks the upcoming release of a groundbreaking book, "The Ten Trillion Dollar Experiment: A Decade of the Affordable Care Act," which will be published on March 23, 2020, the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act. The book is co-edited by Solomon Center Faculty Director Professor Abbe R. Gluck ’00 and Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, Vice Provost for Global Initiatives and chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania. It features work by the conference speakers and other prominent scholars, key policy makers and legal experts.
