College Night on Broadway to feature discounted shopping and more

College students from across the state will converge on Broadway in New Haven on Thursday, Sept. 12 to celebrate College Night.

The annual event, sponsored by The Shops at Yale, a local merchants’ group, is open to all graduate and undergraduate students from Connecticut universities and colleges with a valid student I.D. It will be held on Broadway Island at 56 Broadway, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The event will feature a DJ, activities, games, and free food from Tomatillo Taco Joint, Ashley’s Ice Cream, Yamasaki Teriyaki, and Donut Crazy. Students can take advantage of exclusive one-night-only shopping discounts of up to 30% off at participating retailers, such as FatFace, J. Crew, L.L. Bean, Lou Lou Boutique, Urban Outfitters, Barbour, The Yale Bookstore, and Campus Customs.

Participating restaurants, including Ashley’s Ice Cream, Crepes Choupette, Ivy Wok, Sherkaan Indian Street Food, Tarry Lodge, Tomatillo Taco Joint, Yamasaki Teriyaki and Junzi Kitchen, will offer extended dining discounts through 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. Urban Outfitters will feature free Polaroid photos as well as smoothies from Tropical Smoothie. L.L. Bean will offer a Plinko game with different prizes, a $100 gift card giveaway, and a bracelet-making station on Broadway Island where students can create a custom bracelet out of a nine-foot paracord rope. FatFace will challenge student’s athletic abilities with a cornhole game, while Amazing Andy will stroll around the Broadway district performing live magic tricks.

Parking for The Shops at Yale is available at four surface lots adjacent to stores and restaurants: 56 Broadway, 40 Dixwell Ave., 255 Crown St., and 161 York St. Directions can be found on the event website. On-street parking is available throughout the city, with the option to accept payment through credit cards or mobile app.
