Haskins Laboratories president awarded honorary doctorate

Kenneth Pugh, associate professor in the departments of linguistics and of diagnostic radiology and president and director of research at Yale’s Haskins Laboratories, has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Jyväskylä.

Doctorates were awarded to nine faculty members of varying departments and universities, commending their meritorious work for the benefit of society or science.

Pugh is best known for his work on the neural, behavioral, and cognitive underpinnings of reading, as well as other cognitive activities. He is credited as being among the first scientists to use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to study brain activity associated with reading and reading disabilities.
