Founder of Axios and Politico to discuss journalism career on April 26

The Yale Politic and the Poynter Fellowship in Journalism at Yale are hosting a talk by Jim VandeHei, CEO of Axios, on Friday, April 26 at 6 p.m. in Rm. 101 of Linsly-Chittenden Hall, 63 High St. The event is free and open to the public.

Axios is an American news and information website. Prior to founding Axios, VandeHei founded the political commentary publication Politico. At one point, he was also the executive editor for Politico.

VandeHei began his career in journalism as a sports reporter for Oshkosh Northwestern. Later, he moved to Washington, D.C., where worked for Inside Washington Publishers and was a White House correspondent for The Washington Post.  

VandeHei also has had bylines in Roll Call, Capital Style, the New Republic, and The Wall Street Journal. In 1998, he was the first journalist to report that the Republicans were formally applying to impeach then-President Bill Clinton.

The Poynter Fellowship in Journalism was established by Nelson Poynter, who received his master’s degree in 1927 from Yale. The fellowship brings to campus distinguished reporters, editors and others who have made important contributions to the media. Among recent Poynter fellows are Kathryn Hamilton, Jose Antonio Vargas, and Lowell Chun-Hoon.
