I write to inform you about an incident that occurred early this morning. Preliminary information is that Hamden police officers, responding to reports of an armed robbery, stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Argyle Street and Dixwell Avenue. A Yale police officer responded to a request for assistance from the Hamden police. A Hamden police officer and the Yale police officer both discharged their weapons, and a passenger in the vehicle was struck. Fortunately, the injuries are not life-threatening.

The Connecticut State Police and the State’s Attorney’s office are conducting a full investigation. Consistent with our policies, the Yale police officer who discharged his weapon has been placed on leave until the investigation is completed. The university is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Sincerely,

Janet Lindner
Vice President for Administration
