Memorial service for Professor Stanley Insler
A service of remembrance will be held for Stanley Insler, the Edward E. Salisbury Professor Emeritus of Sanskrit and Comparative Philology on Saturday, April 13. The service will take place at 4 p.m. at the Quinnipiack Club, 221 Church St. in New Haven.
Insler died on Jan. 4 at the age of 82. He was considered to be the preeminent Sanskritist of his generation, and a scholar who made major contributions to the field of historical linguistics. He received his Ph.D. from Yale in 1963 and became a member of the faculty that same year, serving until his retirement in 2012.
