William Kortum ’19 of Grace Hopper College has been named the winning designer in this year’s poster competition for the Adrian Van Sinderen Book Collecting Prizes.

His poster will be used to advertise the 2019 competition for the Van Sinderen Book Collecting Prizes, which honor student bibliophiles for the quality of their book collections.

The judging committee lauded Kortum for “the originality of using scanned books to create an eye-catching and legible poster.”

Natalie Schultz-Henry ’20 of Grace Hopper College was awarded second place for her design. The judges praised her use of varied color palettes.

Julia Hedges ’20, Tommy Huang ’19, and Julia Ma ’19 — all of Jonathan Edwards College — were awarded honorable mentions for their submissions.

Adrian Van Sinderen (Class of 1910) established the prizes in 1957 to encourage undergraduates to collect books, build libraries of their own, and read for pleasure and learning. Senior winners receive $1,000; sophomore winners receive $700.

A poster competition for the annual Van Sinderen Prizes was established in 2002. A $500 prize is awarded to the winning designer.
