Scenes from Founders Day 2018

Yale turned 317 years old on Oct. 9, and members of the Yale community were invited to join Founders Day celebrations around campus.

Founders Day is celebrated each year in recognition of the day when the New Haven Colony approved the creation of the “Collegiate School” that would become Yale: Oct. 9, 1701. The school was to be a place “wherein Youth may be instructed in the Arts & Sciences … [and] fitted for Publick employment both in Church & Civil State.”

This year’s festivities included a birthday gala on Cross Campus, open houses, tours, presidential visits, and more.
