Maisie Louise Mattia is a writer who majors in Literature, thinks about literature, dreams about literature, and will undoubtedly contribute to literature. One of her professors describes her writing as “dazzling in its virtuosity, complexity, and originality”; another calls it “genuinely brilliant.” Her friends and teachers know Mae as someone who has read everything; who misses meals because she has gotten caught up in a book; who, when she talks about Virginia Woolf, makes you feel that Woolf is not just still alive but is about to walk into the room. Mae, who graduates cum laude, has already completed two novels, and next year she will pursue an MFA in creative writing at Hunter College. For her exceptional talent and her future promise, Yale College is delighted to award the Louis Sudler Prize for Excellence in the Creative and Performing Arts to Maisie Louise Mattia.
