Ivetty Estepan is a fierce advocate for justice whose scholarship and service cut across lines of racial and ethnic identity. As a double major in African American Studies and Ethnicity, Race, & Migration, Ivetty has explored Afro-Latinx identity and patterns of migration in the Caribbean. As one of the head organizers for ‘NextYale’, she helped plan the March of Resilience in fall of 2015, bringing together the Yale community to focus on solidarity, unity and student impact. And as a Multi-Cultural Peer Liaison, Co-Head Peer Liaison, and Intersectionality Committee Chair for both the Afro-American Cultural Center and La Casa, she has mentored her younger peers as they navigated their own pathways through Yale. She has already received multiple awards, and now, to recognize these accomplishments, Yale College is honored to bestow the Nakanishi Prize upon Ivetty Estepan.
