The great West Campus duck rescue!

What happens when the West Campus community finds a trapped mother mallard and her new chicks? Why, a daring (and adorable) rescue, of course!

Sometimes, campus life turns to giving a helping hand to the wild animals that share the landscape. Lynn Jones, museum assistant at Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History and long-time citizen of West Campus, discovered a mother mallard and her new chicks trapped in the concealed quadrant of the Collections Study Center. Advice was gathered from friends at the CT Audubon, and decisions made to try to usher the ducks to open space and much needed water.

Colleagues hurried together and in short order mother and babies were safely corralled to the open landscape. All in a day’s work! (Click the thumbnail above to view photos and video of the daring rescue.)
