CANCELED: Talk to explore what we know and can’t know about Russian trolls

Kathleen Hall Jamieson, professor of communication and director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, will speak at Yale on Wednesday, March 7, as a Poynter Fellow in Journalism.

Jamieson’s talk, “Russian Trolls, the Election What We Know and Can’t Know,” will take place at noon in Rm. 208 of the Whitney Humanities Center, 53 Wall St. The event is free and open to the public.

Jamieson is the Elizabeth Ware Packard Professor of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication, the Walter and Leonore Director of the university’s Annenberg Public Policy Center, and program director of the Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands. Jamieson is the author or co-author of 15 books that explore political communication. Five of her books have received a total of eight awards.

While at the Annenberg Center, Jamieson helped start FactCheck, a nonprofit that examines the factual accuracy of statements from U.S. political players in debates, speeches, interview, TV ads, and news releases.

Previously, Jamieson taught at the University of Maryland and the University of Texas. She has won university-wide teaching awards at all three schools where she has taught. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The Poynter Fellowship in Journalism was established by Nelson Poynter, who received his master’s degree in 1927 from Yale. The fellowship brings to campus journalists from a wide variety of outlets who have made significant contributions to their field. Among recent Poynter fellows are Bernard Avishai, Graeme Wood, and Susan Glasser.
