International Women’s Day is a global event celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. No single government, NGO, charity, corporation, academic institution, women’s network, or media hub is solely responsible for International Women’s Day. Many organizations declare an annual IWD theme that supports their specific agenda or cause, and some of these are adopted more widely with relevance than others.

The participating groups at Yale include the Working Women’s Network (WWN), Yale Latino Networking Group, Women in Technology at Yale, and Yale University African American Affinity Group.

WWN will sponsor a celebration at Luce Hall, 34 Hillhouse Ave., 2nd floor Common Room, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Press for Progress.” Participants are encouraged to add #PressforProgress actions to the WWN wall at Luce Hall. Wristbands and baked goods will be available for sale to benefit #ProjectPeriod, an initiative to donate feminine hygiene products and other toiletries to homeless women.

Other IWD events will be held at the following locations on campus:
