Alison Snyder, science editor at Axios, will speak at Yale on Thursday, Feb. 22, as a Poynter Fellow in Journalism.
Snyder will speak at a Benjamin Franklin College Tea on “Science Myths and the Media” at 4 p.m. at the Franklin Head of College House, 90 Prospect St.
Snyder is a managing editor at Axios, where she oversees the newsroom’s science coverage and “Expert Voices” network. She also writes a weekly science newsletter for Axios. She joined Axios last March.
Alison Snyder: ‘Science Myths and the Media’
Snyder is a scientist-turned-journalist, but before Axios, most of her work in journalism was not about science. She worked as an editor and producer at the Washington Post, Newsweek, and the Daily Beast, and she has published articles in these publications and several others. She graduated from MIT with a degree in chemical engineering, studied botany at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, and received a master’s degree in journalism from New York University.
The Poynter Fellowship in Journalism was established by Nelson Poynter, who received his master’s degree in 1927 from Yale. The fellowship brings to campus journalists from a wide variety of outlets who have made significant contributions to their field. Among recent Poynter fellows are Dan Diamond, Elizabeth Kolbert, and Lisa Friedman.
