Wayne Escoffery Quintet to perform as part of Ellington Jazz Series

On Friday, Feb. 2, the group will perform “Delightfulee Morgan,” a program featuring the music of trumpeter Lee Morgan in honor of his 80th year.

On Friday, Feb. 2 the Wayne Escoffery Quintet, led by Yale School of Music lecturer Wayne Escoffery, will perform “Delightfulee Morgan” at Morse Recital Hall. Part of the Ellington Jazz Series, the program celebrates the life and music of legendary trumpeter Lee Morgan in honor of his 80th year, and will feature Morgan’s rarely heard and unrecorded compositions.

Performers include Wayne Escoffery on tenor tax, Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, Bruce Barth on piano, Yasushi Nakamura on bass, and Carl Allen on drums. Tickets are $10 for students and start at $20 for the general public.

About the Ellington Jazz Series

The Ellington Series presents concerts and residencies by jazz legends as well as new artists. Hosted by the program’s founder and director, Willie Ruff, recent seasons have featured Joshua Redman, James Moody, the Heath Brothers, Ahmad Jamal, Lou Donaldson, and Rudresh Mahanthappa’s Gamak.
