The On Dec. 10, 2017 at Battell Chapel, the Yale Symphony Orchestra and the Yale Glee Club performed Handel's “Messiah”, featuring an audience sing-along during the iconic “Hallelujah” chorus.

Jeffrey Douma conducted along with Marguerite Brooks, Joseph Kemper, Simon Lee, Octavia McAloon, and David McNeil. Soloists included Emilia Donato, Ashley Mulcahy, Haitham Haidar, and Edward Vogel. The Yale Symphony Orchestra is directed by Toshiyuki Shimada.

The singers and musicians

The Yale Glee Club is Yale’s principal undergraduate mixed choir and oldest musical organization. It is currently in its 157th season. It has performed in every major city in the United States as well as throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa since it embarked on its first overseas tour in 1928.

The Yale Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1965, is one of the premier undergraduate orchestras in the United States. It has toured domestically and performed in Europe, South America, Korea, and most recently, Russia. The Yale Symphony Orchestra is privately funded, and relies upon donations from alumni and other fans for its educational and cultural travel abroad.

The Institute of Sacred Music is a premier center for the interdisciplinary study of sacred music, worship, and the related arts. It prepares its students for careers in church music and other sacred music, pastoral ministry, performance, and scholarship.
