Dr. Ryan Kaple joins Yale Cardiology

The Yale School of Medicine’s Heart and Vascular Program and Section of Cardiology announced that Ryan Kaple ’08 M.D. will join the cardiology faculty on Jan. 1 as an assistant professor of medicine. Kaple will be a member of the Yale Interventional Cardiology faculty, with a specific focus in structural heart disease.

Prior to attending Yale School of Medicine (YSM), Kaple studied at the University of Notre Dame, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. While at medical school he was awarded the Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Fellowship, conducting intravascular ultrasound research through the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. Kaple graduated from YSM in 2008 with honors, and as a Farr Research Scholar in recognition of his contributions to the field of intravascular ultrasound.

Kaple completed his internship and internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He subsequently held fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell in 2015, during which time he served as chief cardiology fellow. Kaple is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, and interventional cardiology.

After completing his fellowship, Kaple served as an attending physician at Westchester Medical Center and assistant professor of medicine at New York Medical College. At Westchester Medical, Kaple oversaw the transcatheter valve programs and is a recognized leader in the region in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement and catheter based mitral valve repair. His research on valvular heart disease has been the subject of numerous publications and international presentations.

Kaple joins the Interventional Cardiology Group and Structural Heart Disease Program under Dr. John Forrest, director of Interventional Cardiology, with the aim of continuing to advance the internationally recognized Yale Structural Heart Disease Program and the ongoing clinical and academic pursuits in this field. He will be seeing patients both in New Haven and in the Greenwich areas, and performing structural procedures both at Yale and Bridgeport Hospitals.
