‘Native Son’ at the Yale Rep: an interview with playwright Nambi E. Kelley

The Yale Repertory Theatre continues its 51st season with a debut of playwright Nambi E. Kelley’s critically acclaimed adaptation of Richard Wright’s novel, “Native Son.” The play, directed by Seret Scott, is being staged Nov. 30 through Dec. 16 at the Yale Repertory Theatre, 1120 Chapel St.

In this video, Kelley discusses her experience reading the novel as a child in Chicago, exploring its world through the Richard Wright papers archive at Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, and why the story is still relevant in today’s America.
