Uncommon Market brings fresh, affordable food to staff

Operated by Yale Hospitality, Uncommon Market brings affordable fresh produce and foods to all Yale staff, faculty, and students every Friday during summers.

Founded in 2010 by Yale Hospitality, Uncommon Market brings fresh and affordable produce and local foods to all Yale staff, faculty, and students. The market sets up in Beinecke Plaza and draws people from around campus on summer Fridays from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

“We first started doing the Uncommon Market because we knew our students were able to get these amazing fruits and vegetables, and we said 'how can we get this out to the rest of the community?'” said Robert Sullivan, director of Yale Dining Operations.

The market features fresh fruits and vegetables from the same farms that supply Yale's dining halls, as well as baked goods, eggs, beverages, and specialty items like honey and jam from local producers. The summer's final market was on Friday, Aug. 11. Another is expected to be held during Yale College's fall break in October.
