JaVaughn (J.T.) Flowers graduates with Distinction in the Political Science major and with a record that reflects his intellectual curiosity, his deep sense of justice and his commitment to others in and beyond Yale College.

J.T. has participated in a wide array of extracurricular activities, ranging from the Black Men’s Union to WORD, an on-campus poetry performance group, from his work on the Financial Aid Task Force to his serving as both a counselor for Cultural Connections and a Peer Liaison for the Afro-American Cultural Center. His passion for justice and his dedication to his fellow students are encapsulated in his role as founder and president of A Leg Even, a nonprofit that he established as means to advocate for the academic and professional success of low-income students. A winner of numerous awards and prizes, he was recently granted A Gordon Grand Public Service Fellowship to support his proposal to work next year with local government in his home city of Portland, Oregon.
