Emily Marie Switzer

Emily Switzer, a violinist, is one of the most accomplished musicians ever to attend Yale College. A superb embodiment of the scholar/musician, Emily plays with unerring technique, elegant musicianship, and calm confidence. She served as a concertmaster of the Yale Symphony Orchestra, and was the winner of this year’s William Waite Concerto Competition in which she delivered a stunning performance of the Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1. An English major who graduates cum laude and with distinction, she has been recognized both within and outside Yale, twice receiving a coveted fellowship to the Music Academy of the West (MAW) Festival and chosen as a 2017 New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellow. In January, she performed with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. This summer she will be a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Festival and then will return to Yale to continue her studies as a masters student in the School of Music.

For her exceptional talent and brilliant musicianship, Yale College is delighted to award the Louis Sudler Prize for excellence in the performing arts to Emily Switzer.
