Yale opthalmologist Dr. Christopher Teng recently traveled to Haridwar, India to participate in an educational outreach program. A team from Operation Restore Vision, a non-profit organization of which Teng is a member, traveled to The Hans Foundation Eye Hospital in Haridwar to teach and perform eye surgery.

The team performed complex surgeries affecting the cornea, glaucoma, retina, and oculoplastics, and served as teaching instructors for the ophthalmologists at the hospital. “In preparation for our visit, the hospital held over 10 screenings, evaluating over 1,000 patients, in order to identify the patients most at need for care,” said Teng. “They brought the most complex cases to treat and operate on. We assisted on and taught surgeries, and performed live surgical demonstrations on complex cases.”

The team also lectured at the Northern India Ophthalmic Conference, with participants from many cities in Uttarakhand and neighboring states.
