U.N. ambassadors from Latin America, Africa, and Europe to discuss regional organizations in global governance
Three ambassadors to the United Nations — Juan Carlos Mendoza-García, permanent representative of Costa Rica (for the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States); Téte António, permanent observer of the African Union; and Joanne Adamson, deputy head of the European Union Delegation — will discuss regional organizations in global governance on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
(See bios of the three ambassadors.)
The event will be moderated by Ambassador Yuriy Sergeyev, former permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, and senior fellow in Yale’s Program in European Union Studies. It will take place at 4 p.m. in Henry R. Luce Hall auditorium, 33 Hillhouse Ave. It is free and open to the public.
This is the second of three roundtables sponsored by the MacMillan Center’s European Studies Council and European Union Studies Program. An article about the first roundtable and the video is available here. The final one — “U.N. Ambassadors’ Roundtable: Universality and Diversity of Human Rights” – will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. in Henry R. Luce Hall Auditorium.
The panelists for the Nov. 30 roundtable will include Sergeyev, two other ambassadors to the U.N. — Maria Emma Mejia Veles, permanent representative of Colombia and chair of the third Committee on Human Rights and Social Issues during the 71st Session of the U.N. General Assembly, in 2016-2017; and Omar Hilale, permanent representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations and chair of the 3rd Committee on Human Rights and Social Issues during the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly, in 2015-2016 — and Ivan Simonovic, assistant U.N. secretary general for human rights.
