Some city sidewalks will become temporary works of art during the first New Haven Chalk Festival, taking place 10 a.m.–6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 (rain date: Sunday, Aug. 21).
Art created for The Wine Thief by Michael Micinilio, who will create a mural during the festival.The festival — to be held on Broadway Island, across from Apple and J.Crew — will bring together children, amateur and professional artists, and artist groups to create chalk masterpieces, while competing for prizes in different categories.
During the festival, New Haven artist Michael Micinilio will create a 4′ x 8′ chalk mural on Broadway Island. Micinilio’s pastel works have appeared in BAR, The Wine Thief, and The Four Flours Baking Company.
The New Haven Chalk Art Festival will also feature Ashley’s Ice Cream, live music from Neighborhood Music School’s Premier Jazz Ensemble and The Modern Standard, a balloon artist, tarot readings, exclusive discounts to retailers and restaurants, giveaways, and more.
