GHLI photo contest winners announced

Yale Global Health Leadership Institute announced the three winners of its 2016 photo contest. Open to current Yale students, the contest asks contributors to submit original images that capture the essence or aspect of global health — preferably pictures taken while participating in a global health project.

First place: “Anita Walks to the Next House,” by Kira Tebbe ’17

Second place: “Road to Town,” by Julia Gilbert ’18
A man makes the long walk into town in rural Honduras. Rural communities such as this one face challenges associated with distance from urban centers, underdeveloped infrastructure, and limited access to transportation. The photo was taken from the back of a pick-up truck on researchers’ way into a village participating in a Yale Institute for Network Science study on maternal, newborn, and child health behaviors and social networks.   

Third place: “Shoes: A Simple Intervention to Prevent Hookworm Infection in Children,”
