Yale’s ROTC Air Force cadets and Navy midshipmen will parade in full uniform at the second annual President’s Review on Thursday, April 28.
President Peter Salovey will review the military officers-in-training at the event. Presidents and military liaisons of area colleges and universities, family members and friends of the ROTC Air Force cadets and Navy midshipmen, and Yale faculty and staff are invited to attend. The President’s Review will take place at 11 a.m. in Lee Amphitheater of Payne Whitney Gymnasium, 70 Tower Pkwy.
At the ceremony, 12 midshipmen in Yale’s Naval ROTC unit and 12 cadets from its Air Force ROTC unit will be honored with special awards for their commitment and service during their training on campus.
There are currently 46 midshipmen in Yale’s Naval ROTC unit (all Yale students) and 44 cadets in its Air Force ROTC (21 of those are Yale students; the others are from other Connecticut universities). Yale’s Navy and Air Force ROTC programs were re-established on campus in the fall of 2012 after a four-decade long hiatus that began during the turbulent Vietnam era. While there is no Army ROTC on campus, Yale undergraduates can participate in an Army ROTC program at the nearby University of New Haven.
Students in both the Air Force and Naval units take leadership and other courses as part of their preparation for service and actively train on campus with a residential cadre of military personnel.
