Shades of Eros

Sampled

Enjoy a performance of Sampled: Beats of Muslim Life — a one-woman show based on ethnographic research that uses poetry, theater, and movement to explore issues around race, hip-hop, and Muslims in the United States. Free. Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall, Auditorium, 1 Prospect St. 8 p.m.

The Martian

Sit among the stars at a Movie Night at the Planetarium: The Martian followed by a discussion with an astronomer about the science in the movie. Free. Leitner Observatory, 355 Prospect St. 8 p.m.

Peabody

Bring the family to the opening of the exhibition Treasures of the Peabody: 150 Years of Collection and Discovery. Explore the rich history of the Yale Peabody Museum, its collections — from titanic dinosaurs to a giant squid — and its personalities. There will be games, craft activities, a touch table, a scavenger hunt, and behind-the-scenes collection tours. 170 Whitney Ave. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Attend the Yale Symphony 50th Anniversary concert — with Ole Akahoshi and Scarlett Tong Zuo, including a world-premiere by composer Loren Loiacono ‘10, and Aaron Jay Kernis’ “Air for Cello and Orchestra” featuring cellist Ole Akahoshi. Works by photographer Judy Glickman Lauder will accompany Viktor Ullmann’s Symphony No. 2 “Theresienstadt Sketchbook,” a depiction of cultural and mortal struggle for survival faced in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Scarlet Tong Zuo will perform Rautavaara’s Piano Concerto No. 1, and the concert will conclude with Ludvig van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 8.” Woolsey Hall, 500 College St. 8 p.m.

Marsh

Get ready for Spring at Open Hours: Marsh Botanical Garden. Visitors are invited to enjoy the fragrance and grandeur of the tropical collections, desert house, and carnivorous plant display. Free. Marsh Botanical Garden Greenhouses, 265 Mansfield St. 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Come to the Stan Wheeler Memorial Jazz Concert — an annual jazz concert dedicated to the memory of the late Yale Law School professor and trumpeter Stan Wheeler. The concert will feature Yale jazz alumni artists and friends Bob Kolb (alto sax), Paul Lieberman (tenor sax), Tim Moran (baritone sax), Steve Perrett (trumpet), Paul Sullivan (piano), Tony Lombardozzi (guitar), Jeff Fuller (bass), and Bob D’Angelo  (drums). Attend the student-run Environmental Film Festival at Yale (EFFY). The EFFY showcases incisive, cutting-edge films that highlight the environmental and social issues of our time. Africa Salon

Celebrate Yale’s contemporary African arts and culture festival, Africa Salon. Recognizing and celebrating the outpouring of cutting-edge African visual art, film, music, and more, the second annual Africa Salon brings narrative-disrupting artists as well as thinkers, designers, dancers, and musicians to Yale and New Haven through April 3.
