Science Diplomats to present ‘Distortion of Perception: From Brain to Mind to Behavior’

Exploring the brain will be the focus of the next Science in the News talk presented by the Yale Science Diplomats, a group of graduate students dedicated to making complex scientific topics easily understood by people of all ages.

Titled “Distortion of Perception: From Brain to Mind to Behavior,” the lecture will be presented three times: on Monday, Feb. 8, 7-8 p.m. in the Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave., Milford; on Thursday, Feb. 11, 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the New Haven Free Public Library, 133 Elm St., New Haven; and on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 7-8 p.m. in the Guilford Free Library, 67 Park St., Guilford. The talks are free and open to the public; refreshments will be provided.

Among the questions that will be explored are: “How does our brain control how we perceive the world around us?” “How does this perception ultimately dictate our behavior?” and “Can our brain be tricked into believing things that may not be true?”

The Science in the News lecture series is dedicated to providing people with a better understanding of the scientific underpinnings of the issues in the news every day.
