Tim Vasen

Vasen, who died on Dec. 28, held two degrees from Yale: a B.A. (1987) and an M.F.A. (1993). In addition to lecturing at YSD, he was a lecturer in theater and the Lewis Center for the Arts, and director of the Program in Theater at Princeton University.

“Tim was a cherished member of the faculty of directing at YSD,” said Liz Diamond, who has taught at YSD since 1992. “He was a brilliant mentor to directors in production — encouraging them to pursue big visions and ideas, to embrace artistic risk, and to rehearse joyfully. ‘What could be better than to spend your time making art that brings so much pleasure to so many people!’ Tim  would say. He was our brilliant and beloved teacher and colleague, and we will miss him more than words can say.”
