Campus & Community

Why wait? Give. Match. Win.

The following is a message to the Yale community from Martha Highsmith, senior adviser to the president, lecturer, and acting chief communication officer. I’ll admit it. I did not respond right away when the first message came out in late October about the 2015 Yale United Way Campaign. I waited, knowing the campaign had just begun.

Around Thanksgiving, as I reflected on the how the blessings of this life are meant to be shared — and prompted by a reminder email from colleagues! — I made my donation for the year.

I write to encourage you to stop waiting and make your contribution to United Way now.

As an incentive, Tarry Lodge New Haven will give a voucher valid for a complimentary antipasti or a dessert to any Yale faculty or staff who gives to United Way by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11.

As an added incentive, any Yale faculty or staff who gives to United Way by 5 p.m. on  Dec. 11 will also be entered into a drawing for one of five special, framed prints of photographs by Yale University photographer Michael Marsland.

Finally, remember that Yale will match up to $100,000 for new or increased payroll donations with a gift to United Way

Of course, the greatest incentive is the knowledge that our collective effort makes a real difference in the lives of our neighbors in New Haven as United Way supports lasting community solutions, focusing on education, income, and health.

So why wait? Give now, get a treat from Tarry Lodge, and have a chance to win a special, framed Michael Marsland photograph. The United Way campaign continues through the holidays and into January – but there’s no better time to give than right now!
