The culinary and charitable combine in Chili & Chowder Cookoff on Nov. 23
Chowder lovers, take heed: The annual cookoff/benefit hosted by Yale Hospitality is not just for chili fans any more.
At the Chili & Chowder Cookoff on Monday, Nov. 23, attendees can sample — and judge — recipes from campus cooks and local restaurants. The $7 minimum donation at the door and other proceeds from the event will benefit United Way of Greater New Haven.
The event will take place noon-1:30 p.m. at Commons Dining Hall in the Schwarzman Center, corner of Grove and Prospect streets.
As attendees taste the chili and chowder offerings and vote for their favorite in the People’s Choice category, a select group of judges will also critique the entries. Each year, the winner of the cookoff is presented with an award and holds the title of champion for the upcoming year, while the award-winning recipe is featured on the Yale College menu.
In addition to the culinary competition, there will be a silent auction, featuring items that attendees can bid on before or during the event. Seasonal, culinary, and Yale-branded items are available, as well as gift certificate from local restaurants. Complimentary beverages, side items, fruits, and more will also be available.
