Yale to host first statewide Young Professionals Symposium

The Future Leaders of Yale organization is teaming up with Connecticut Young Professionals to host the first statewide Young Professionals Symposium (YPS) on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Yale University.

YPS will bring together state officials, business leaders, and young professionals from across the state. The event will focus on how to attract and retain young professionals in Connecticut. Participants will also discuss community involvement, and finance and business issues that impact this demographic as well as arts and culture in the state.

Connecticut Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman will deliver the keynote address at noon. This will be followed by a political panel featuring legislators such as Congressman Jim Himes, State Representative Gail Lavielle, and State Senator Toni Boucher. Afterward there will be breakout sessions headed by community leaders.

The symposium will begin with a networking brunch. Food trucks will be available for lunch. The day will round out with a networking happy hour at Elm City Social and will feature different community networking organizations. Most symposium events will take place at Yale’s historic William L. Harkness Hall, 100 Wall St.

The goal of the Young Professionals Symposium is to engage young professionals with all facets of the community in order to create a network of connections that will foster sustainable social and economic development in Connecticut.

The co-chair of Future Leaders of Yale, Alina Nevins, says “We are very excited for this opportunity to bring together young professionals groups from across the state. By engaging with state politicians, we hope to make Connecticut a better place for young professionals to live, work, and raise a family. By coming together as a group, we hope to provide many opportunities to learn from each other and grow as professionals.”
