Two members of the Yale women’s tennis team will vie for a chance to play in the U.S. Open and the Connecticut Open during the New Haven tennis tournament.

Yale women’s tennis player Carol Finke has been granted a wildcard into the U.S. Open National Playoffs women’s singles qualifier. The sophomore, who hails from Glencoe, Illinois, was a runner-up in the New England women’s singles qualifier.

Finke will compete alongside teammate Ree Ree Li in the U.S. Open National Playoff doubles draw. Li, a senior from Waxhaw, North Carolina, was elected by her Yale teammates as captain for the 2015 season.

In addition, Finke received a wildcard on Thursday into the qualifying tournament for the Connecticut Open, which begins on Friday. If she can win three matches, she would make the main draw of the tournament. She and Li are also hoping to get a team wildcard into the main draw of the doubles tournament.

The Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies is taking place Aug. 21–29 in the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, located on Derby Avenue. The men’s and women’s singles U.S. Open National Playoffs Championship will take place Aug. 21–24, and the men’s and women’s doubles will take place Aug. 25–28.
