Markets on Broadway and Whitney under new ownership
Yale University Properties has signed lease agreements with Sun Yup Kim, owner of Good Nature Market, for the former Gourmet Heaven spaces at 15 Broadway and 44 Whitney Ave. in New Haven.
Sun Yup Kim has operated a fresh-market business in New York City for 15 years. Good Nature Market will occupy approximately 4,000 square feet of space at 15 Broadway and 3,000 square feet of space at 44 Whitney Ave.
Kim says his decision to open two markets in New Haven reflects his passion for the grocery business and his commitment to providing excellence in his industry. Kim, a longstanding member and former Chair of the Korean American Grocers Association of New York, has received several honors and awards throughout his career, including a citation honoring him for exemplary citizenship from the New York State Senate. Kim will be devoting all of his energies to the two locations, and he will be relocating to New Haven with his wife.
“We are thrilled to be part of the New Haven community, and part of the Yale University Properties portfolio,” said Kim. “We are committed to offering high-quality food and convenience items at affordable prices. Our goal is to retain existing employees and continue a seamless operation. Our highly dedicated employees work to provide fast, friendly service; they are our partners in everything we do, and we value and respect them. We look forward to serving the community for years to come.”
Yale University Properties worked diligently to find a strong operator to service the needs of the New Haven community including Yale University students, staff, and faculty.
“As promised, we were committed to identifying an operator who would meet the needs of our community, and we are delighted to welcome Good Nature Market to New Haven,” said Lauren Zucker, Yale University’s associate vice president for the Office of New Haven Affairs and University Properties. “Yale University Properties’ mission is to enhance the quality of life in New Haven by providing a unique merchandising mix of restaurants and shops. Through Yale’s community investment program, the university contributes to the vibrancy of downtown New Haven, by creating jobs, and has become one of the city’s top taxpayers.”
Good Nature Market commenced operations on March 13, 2015, to ensure a smooth transition for employees and customers.
