An international workshop on globalization’s effects on Spanish-language literatures in Spain and Latin America will take place on the Yale campus Thursday and Friday, March 5 and 6.

Titled “Globalization and Literature in Iberoamerican Letters: Material Culture in Iberoamerican Literatures and Cultures Today,” the workshop will feature 10 scholars from major European universities — such as Catholic University of Leuven, Autónoma de Madrid, Caen, Cergy-Pontoise, Murcia, Sorbonne Nouvelle, and Tours — as well as four U.S. scholars from the Universities of Connecticut and Miami, Stanford University, and Yale.

The workshop is open to the public, and will meet both days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Rm. 241, Rosenkranz Hall, 115 Prospect St. Papers and discussions will be in Spanish.

This event builds on the experiences of similar workshops on issues of globalization and Latin American literature held recently in the École Normale Supérieure in France, and the Universität Bern in Switzerland, which have led to publications in academic journals and a 2015 book titled “Temporalidades de la globalización,” which will be presented at the Yale workshop.

This workshop is organized by Professor Aníbal González-Pérez of Yale’s Department of Spanish and Portuguese, with support from the Edward J. and Dorothy Clarke Kempf Fund, the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale, and the Council of Latin American and Iberian Studies.
